FMF: Worth

Is it worth it?

I ask myself this question all the time. I have three boys, asking THE question is a must. It takes a lot of energy to keep up with three boys ages 7, 5, and 2.

I ask it about parenting strategies. Was it worth it to spank him? Was it worth it to spend an afternoon teaching a two-year-old about time out? OR is there a more creative way to parent that might work better?

Is this trip worth it? I desperately wanted to go back east this summer to see my family whom I haven’t seen in years, but I had to ask, is the 17 hour trip with three boys by myself worth it? The answer was, “No, not this time.” It hurt, but I think it saved everyone involved a few gray hairs.

We also have to ask ourselves this question about all the activities we’re involved it. Is T-ball worth it? Is Karate worth it? Is _____ worth it? The answer to T-ball was, nope. The answer to Karate was, YES! The friends we have made and the Christian influence gained is more than worth the few hours we put in each week.

As you look around yourself today, ask, “Is ____ worth it?” It’s not bad to take time and sort through your life in this way. Sometimes the answer may hurt, and you’ll find yourself needing to let go. At other times the answer will be an emphatic, “YES!”

This post is written from a prompt in the Five Minute Friday community. Every Friday Christian writers join together to write for five minutes, no editing, on one prompt. Come join us at FiveMinuteFriday.com. We’d love to have you!

Do you find it hard to study the Bible?

hi neighbour (I’m one behind you in the link up) and yes.. karate IS worth it (at least to my boy too). 🙂 It’s a good question to ask once in a while.. .if something is really worth it. 🙂 Good reminder.

Isn’t it good for boys? It helps mine have a good channel for all that energy, and we love the Christian aspect of our group, too.

“Is it worth it?” is not always an easy question to answer, but I think it is a helpful one to think about in helping us devote our time and energy to what is best.

Yes! There are so many good things, but asking this question and praying over it helps me see God’s best for me and my family.

Great question to filter all the things that fill up our schedules. I hope you do get to see your family soon. In some way. I know that would be refreshing for you 😉

Thank you, Somer. Yes, I might try to fly soon sans kiddos 😉

THIS:”As you look around yourself today, ask, “Is ____ worth it?” It’s not bad to take time and sort through your life in this way. Sometimes the answer may hurt, and you’ll find yourself needing to let go. At other times the answer will be an emphatic, “YES!” Its amazing what a difference it makes when it is worth it. I’m in the 72 spot this week.

Yes, it’s a huge difference! The things that are worth it often give life while the ones that aren’t often suck it away.
