“Why do we look so much like the world?”

Oct 13, 2010

When I walked into the churches of my childhood and into many today, I see normal people sitting on the pews. With normal worries, concerns, and stresses. I see them handling those problems much the same as anyone on the street would, with the exception of a little prayer cover thrown in.

But is this the way it should be? When someone walks into our buildings, should they see normal?

-If we believe the trinity is one and is equal.

-If Jesus said, “I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works…whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do…” (John 14: 10 and 12)

-If he then said, “I will ask Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever…he dwells with you and will be in you” (John 14:16-17).

-“If the Spirit of of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you…” (Rom. 8:11)

Then why do we look so little like Jesus and so normal instead?
