Easter sometimes feels like a second Christmas. We want to focus on Jesus. We know He’s the reason we’re celebrating, but between the eggs, chocolates, and frilly dresses, our focus drops to the celebration instead of the one we’re celebrating.
This spring let’s take Easter beyond the bunny and focus our family’s eyes back on Jesus. For years, I’ve given my kids a special devotional or journal as part of their Easter basket (Well, let’s be honest. No basket. A devotional and some candy.)
Here’s a list of some of our favorite resources over the years from my kids and me. We own and have used these resources over the last 13 years. I hope they give you some ideas this year as you seek to focus your family’s eyes on Jesus. They are broken up into age groups to make finding the perfect resource easier.
Young Children
Here you’ll find some picture books, devotionals, and Bible storybooks. These are hands down our family favorites because they are quick and easy to read, have well-done pictures, and keep a child’s interest. Unlike many children’s books that you want to hide after the fifth time, I loved reading these books year after year.
- Peter’s Perfect Prayer Place
- Near Psalm 139
- The Story for Little Ones
- 100 Bible Heros 100 Bible Songs
- Our Daily Bread for Kids
- Candle Bible for Toddlers
- The Jesus Storybook Bible
Older Kids
These devotionals and Bibles are some of my favorite ways to “sneak” God into my kids’ lives. I’m kidding. Sorta. I have all boys, and they love graphic novels. Getting them to read the “real” Bible was difficult initially, but all three gladly dove into the Action Bible (Graphic Novel meets Bible). It, and all these resources, and well done and solid scripturally. I frequently recommend them to friends and give them as gifts.
- The Action Bible
- The Adventure Bible
- Fruit Full: 100 Family Experiences for Growing in the Fruit of the Spirit
- Indescribable: 100 Devotionals about God and Science
- Prayers and Promises for Boys
- The Mother and Son Prayer Journal
- 365 Days to Knowing God for Guys (updated cover)
Moms
Some of these books came out this year and some I’ve turned to over and over again throughout the years. These are some of the books that have had the most impact on my walk with God over the years. I pray they do the same for you.
- Raising Amazing
- Look to Love
- Hope for the Weary Mom Devotional
