3 Prayers for Our Kid’s Teachers

Sep 30, 2024

Every summer I pray for my son’s upcoming teachers. I pray my sons’ teachers see them, love them, and help them understand what is taught. Because, unless you are a homeschooled family, your kids’ teachers spend about 50% of each day with your kid. Unless you are a homeschooled family, your kids’ teachers spend about 50% of each day with your kid.

Since that is true we are in a partnership with them as we raise our kids, and they need our support.

Yes, there are truly awful teachers out there. I had some as a kid, and my kids have had some. However, most teachers care deeply about their students and are trying to do their best with limited time and resources. We should support them as much as we can.

One of the best ways we can support them is through prayer. When we pray for them with our kids, our hearts become tender to the teachers and help us see them as people just like us in need of help and grace.

In Everyday Prayers for the School Year, I share three of my favorite prayers for my children’s teachers (or myself as a teacher!).

  1. 1 Kings 3:8-9: Lord, give all the teachers wisdom and insight this school year. Bless and prosper their efforts.
  2. 1 Thessalonians 5:11: Lord, fill all the teachers with life-giving words and build them up so they can pour into our children.
  3. Colossians 1:11: Lord, grant our teachers the strength and endurance they need to do their best as they teach our children.

You can find the full story behind these prayers in Everyday Prayer for the School Year. I share in one of them how as a teacher I turn to God to help with difficult students who don’t want to learn.
