If you’re like me, you may have secretly wondered in your heart, “Why does God want all the glory? Is He some kind of egomaniac that He needs all the glory for himself?” I mean, I know he’s GOD, but why throughout scripture does He insist on taking all the glory and punish severely those who take it for themselves?

Then, as I was sitting here this morning, I realized it really has nothing to with God needing the glory. Yes, He gets very angry when people steal the glory from Him, but I realized that His anger has more to do with pride’s effect on us, than the lack of acknowledgment’s effect on Him.

When we let pride in, even a little bit, we begin to think it all depends on us. We become stressed, filled with worry, begin to doubt, and at the very least make a complete fool of ourselves when we step out on our own. However, at the very most pride is what began the war between God and Satan.

I think if I was in God’s shoes I might react the same way. If pride caused one of those closest to me to fall and to drag other children down with them, I think I would do everything in my power to prevent it from taking a hold in my remaining children, even get very angry.

So next time that voice in the back of your head whispers, “Why does God need all the glory?” Know that it is not for his benefit but for yours. Then humbly bow your head and raise your arms and give Him all the glory and praise for how he is moving and shaking in your life.
