About – OLD

My head shot What you need to know about me most of all is that I’m a wife, mother, teacher, author, and podcaster. I strive to curl up close to God to hear what He has to teach me. It is that relationship that, hopefully, transforms all the others.

I grew up a little bit of everywhere. My dad was a preacher, so we moved around a lot from Texas to Pennsylvania to West Virginia and several places in between. Right before I went to college my parents moved to Oklahoma, and because I married an Okie, I now claim it as my home.

I have been married to my best friend, Jeremy, since 2001 and we have three sons. Yes, three boys. My days are full of energy, noise, sword fights, legos, hugs, and kisses.

In 2002 I received my BA in English from Freed-Hardeman University and then in 2008 my MA in Composition and Rhetoric from the University of Central Oklahoma. Since 2007 I have been teaching freshman English and absolutely love it! Pre-kids I taught face-to-face at Southern Nazarene University (SNU) and Oklahoma State University-OKC (OSU-OKC). Post-kids I only taught online with SNU for several years, and I’m now back in the classroom and online with Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT). I love my students there and the way teaching allows me to be a better mom at home.

Along with teaching, my passion is helping women and their families abide in Jesus to build a foundation of faith for their lives. My books Sacred Pathways for Kids co-authored with Christie Thomas, Abide: 40 Ways to Focus on Jesus Daily, and Everyday Prayers for the School Year, and podcast Over A Cup help women and their families connect with Jesus throughout their day.

I hope to help women develop a personal relationship with Jesus through my writing and speaking because we can’t give our families something we don’t have. While growing up I learned the importance of a personal relationship with God, and I want to help women get past the rule giver we often perceive God as and discover the loving Father he really is. Walking in a relationship with God is the journey of a lifetime, and I hope you’ll join me.
