Unseen Beauty

Aug 25, 2011

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.–Col. 3:23-24, NLT

Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.– Matt. 6:1, NLT

Have you ever walked along the beach and found a broken sea shell? If you picked it up and examined it, you would have seen how the inside detail is even more astounding than the outside. Or take the inside of many flowers. When you break them open or peer deep inside, often the colors and patterns are much richer than the petals themselves.

I have always been amazed at how much creativity and beauty God puts into unseen places. In these verses He is asking us to do the same. Instead of parading our best efforts for others to see, He asks us to work as for him, even in the unseen places of our lives.

During the 2am feeding of a newborn, during the late afternoon with our toddler, during the daily routine of housework. God wants us to give Him our best even here in the situations that only He sees.
