God is my Refuge and Strength

Oct 17, 2011

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge…” Ps. 18:2a

“For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.” Ps. 18:29

“You have said, ‘Seek my face.’ My heart says to you, ‘Your face, LORD, do I seek.'” Ps. 27:8

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?” Ps. 42:1-2

Right now Ethan idolizes Jeremy. To Ethan, Jeremy is God. All day long he asks, “Daddy home?” Especially now that we’re having some remodeling done and the door is constantly opening and closing. Every time the door opens Ethan hopefully asks, “Daddy home?”

When Jeremy is home, Ethan cannot be separated from him. He tags along wanting to be with his Daddy constantly. If Jeremy has to do something Ethan can’t help with, he utterly melts down because he can’t spend time with his Daddy.

Watching Ethan with Jeremy has given me a new appreciation for the verses in the Bible, and especially Psalms, that talk about God as our refuge and seeking God. Do I seek after God and desire to spend time with Him with the same intensity that Ethan does Jeremy? If I’m honest, most days not.

Oh, to have Ethan’s intensity as I seek after God and desire to spend time with Him. Unlike Ethan, my Father is always there. Waiting and able to spend time with me. He’s never unavailable or has to go off to work. All I have to do is turn, seek Him, and He is waiting there with open arms.
