Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind… ~ Romans 12:2a
Quick Sip
Lately, some days all I can think is, “I can’t do this anymore!” “One more day of this, and I’ll go crazy!” “This is too much!” Then I catch myself playing this recording and realize that of course I can’t do it, if I keep telling myself that I can’t. Those types of thoughts are only setting me up for failure in every area of my life.
But how do I push stop on that recording? If you have heard it in your own head, you know how hard it is. Satan likes that recording, and he’ll keep it playing it as long as I keep listening to it.
There is only one thing I have found that helps. I have to replace the recording with something else. Something better. I’ve heard this concept from a variety of sources over the last few months as it pertains to habits, and I think it works here as well. To stop the recording, I have to replace it with another one. A better and stronger one.
Somethings that help me to record over the negative thoughts are prayer, good songs, and verses. I find that when I fill myself with these positive messages, then when the negative recording begins, I have something to combat it with. As a friend recently suggested, I can tell the Satan’s recording to “Be Silent!” and play God’s instead. I find that when I do this, over time the negative recording comes to me less and less, God’s runs through my head more and more. Finally, helping me to push stop on Satan’s negative tape.
