Building God’s House

Feb 16, 2011

Be careful now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and do it…Then David said to Solomon his son, ‘Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the LORD God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.” I Chronicles 28:10, 20

As mothers our greatest charge is to build God’s house in our children. To lay the foundations for the sanctuary that they will one day begin to build on their own. So when Ethan shows me his sheep for the second time during my quite time, I need to remember that those few seconds of interruption are important, too. They both contribute to this building process. Because how can I introduce Ethan to a God I don’t know personally myself? And how can I show him God’s love if I constantly push him aside?

The important thing for me is to learn to involve Ethan in the process whenever I can. So if he needs my attention, I take the time out of my quite time to sing him a few Jesus songs or to read his Bible to him.

These moments, though small, are very important to building God’s house. I will make mistakes, but I just love that I’m not in this alone. God “even [David’s] God” is with me as I lay the foundations for His house in Ethan. He will not leave me to figure it out on my own, but he walks beside me, guiding me through what I learn in my quite time and other times. What encouragement!
