As you know, lately I’ve studying the Holy Spirit and finding out there is so much more to His promise to be with us than I had thought. This week another piece was added to the puzzle. Many as they think of the Holy Spirit go searching after His gifts. Healing, prophesying, speaking in tongues, and other miracles. Though these are good gifts to have, they are not the point of His indwelling. The point is to encourage the church and glorify God in order to bring others to Him.
Jesus did this through the gifts but more so He did it through the love He showed the people. Throughout the gospels we see how he reached out and touched and loved the untouchable.
Maybe instead of seeking after the seemingly miraculous gifts, we should seek after the most miraculous one of all–unconditional love (Rom. 5:3-5, 1 Cor. 13). The other gifts will amaze and bring glory to God, but true Love will show them that we are genuine. Not another act on TV, but the real thing sent from God to touch their life.
Some of these thoughts were taken from: God’s Hands in the Life of an Electrician by Jimmy Yamada, Jr. pg.114-117.
You are so right Tara. Seeking to help others is truly amazing. Our life is to give glory to our heavenly Father. Thank you for your thoughts.
